MORTAL RULES 1) You may not abuse bugs. You have to report all bugs. We need the players to report all bugs, good as well as bad. Use the command 'bug' to report them, and if it seems a serious one, tell an ARCH about it. Earlier rules stated that the first time a bug affected you, it was OK as long as you reported it. Note that this is no longer the case; any side-effects should be cancelled by an ARCH. If you feel that you don't want to report the bug since that would be disadvantageous to you, remember that we sometimes reward you for reporting bugs, especially in cases where it would be better for you to stay quiet... If you are uncertain if something is a bug, or supposed to be that advantageous, ask an ARCH. 2) You may not use one of your characters to help another of your characters. Each character is supposed to be played separately. You may not use one character to help any other of your characters by, for example, almost killing a monster with one char and finish it off with another; drop coins or equipment for another char to fetch, and so forth. RULE 2 is currently SUSPENDED - you can now play more than one character until further notice. Please note that this might be revised if you use multiple characters for player killing purposes. I.e. do not abuse it. 3) You are neither allowed to give away game secrets, such as the exact location of exploration, quest solutions and so forth, nor to use any information not obtained from your own personal experience. You may show your friends the mud but you are not allowed to give the exact location of exploration or to give away game secrets. Giving someone an exploration log will simply lead to high-level players who still have trouble finding their way around. It is also illegal to use logs or cheat sheets that someone has given you. Violations of this will lead to both the giving and the receiving parties being demoted. Don't walk other players through quests. A small hint on what direction to take next ought to suffice if someone is truly stuck. You can also help by being "muscle" if a difficult monster is the obstacle. You may not, however, give away the entire quest solution, or use such information that you have received. 4) You may not ask a wizard for items, experience, money, information, or any other thing that will make the game easier for you. The basic meaning of this rule is that you may not ask for something the wizard may not give you. A player is supposed to play the game without getting help from the wizards. If a wizard gives items or other help to a mortal, is is considered cheating by all parties involved. A wizard may not reimburse you for bugs. If you think you have lost experience, money, items, or stats due to a bug, ask an ARCH or KING to help you. If you don't know who to turn to, ask a wizard for advice. Note that the wizard may only tell you which arch to turn to or wake up an arch who is invisible or idle, not reimburse you himself _even if no arch is logged on_. So don't yell at the poor wizard, either. You may, however, of course ask for help if you run into a bug, or there is something in the game that you do not understand. The questions "Who is the patron of my guild?", "What is the difference between clerics and mages", and "Is it a bug that does ?" are OK questions. The questions "Where is ?" or "Can you please give me 10.000 coins" are not acceptable. 5) There is, unfortunately, no privacy. Kingdoms is an open mud and though we try to give you a surrounding where you can enjoy some privacy, there is no privacy guaranteed. Wizards have countless opportunities to spy on players and we dont wish to give the illusion that there would be any privacy on the mud. If it is critical that what you discuss is discussed in private, then please choose some other medium. Because of this, chat-, guild- and other types of talk channels are not private. All can join and no one can force another player to leave a channel, just as no one can force players out of a room that is open to the mud. PLAYER-KILLING The player-killing rules exist to make the player-killing somewhat fair and to ensure that the majority of the players get as much out of the game as possible. There are hard-coded limits on which players you may kill. See 'help playerkilling' for more information. 6) Player-killing is a privilege, not a right. If all you get out of playing this game is killing other players, switch to a 'pure' player-killing mud. Hopefully, you will enjoy yourself more that way. Player-killing is allowed, within reasonable limits. If you can't tell what reasonable limits are, in the opinion of the arches, you will be demoted. 7) Player-killing that turns into destructiveness is not tolerated. What do we mean by "destructiveness"? Killing newbies, concentrating on killing those you know are not interested, going on a killing spree indiscriminately killing any player you see etc, is not tolerated. Don't kill the same player repeatedly. While killing a person once is accepted, doing so repeatedly is not. Repeatedly in this case can be as little as twice, if close together. Player-killing is a part of the game; this does not mean it should be the only part. If you cross the line you are normally warned. If you manage to do severe damage before we can get a hold of you, you may, however, be demoted without a warning. 8) The player-killing limits are different depending on the level and status of the parties involved. Any and all attempts to bypass these limitations, no matter what the circumstances, are illegal and will lead to demotion. For information about how the limits work, see 'help playerkilling'.
